Over 250 pastors, elected officials and community leaders attended the December 5 premier of “A Time to Stand!”, the powerful documentary that gives behind-the-scenes and personal perspectives of the epic defeat of former Houston Mayor Annise Parker’s pro-LGBT “Equal Rights Ordinance”. The hour and twenty minute film was marked by repeated applause and received a standing ovation from the attendees with the dynamic content including interviews of key pastors, attorney Andy Taylor, business leader Peter Wareing and others involved in the eighteen month conflict that spanned city council meetings, a year in Texas courts and concluded with the 61% to 39% defeat of the ordinance by Houston voters on November 4, 2015.
“I wasn’t called to win, I was called to stand. Stand for that which is right,” stated by Pastor F.N. Williams, the first pastor to be subpoenaed, perfectly illustrates the spirit of the pastors, leaders and citizens across Houston who were part of this great victory and who attended the evening premier.
The frequent applause and standing ovation at the conclusion illustrated the excellence of the documentary and even more importantly, the profound current relevancy of what happened in Houston to the similar national debate driving much public attention. Houston Area Pastor Council hopes to “light fires in pulpits” across the nation through the showing and distribution of the DVD’s that will result in pastors organizing more effectively in cities from coast to coast.
“God did this in and through this wonderful team of pastors, the hundreds of other pastors and churches who stood and engaged, other key community leaders and of course, the thousands of citizens who signed, worked, gave and voted ‘No’ to tyranny, indecency and injustice,” said Pastor Willie Davis.
DVD’s are available for pre-order at www.uspastorcouncil.org as well as the dynamic trailer to share with pastors, friends, family and peers as far and wide as possible. “What if pastors in major cities all over the nation stood together and brought God’s liberating truth to the battle for the minds of our people everywhere as we did here?” posed Pastor Hernan Castano. “We hope and pray that this documentary will help accomplish that!”
