11:00 am – 1:00 pm (lunch provided)

Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church

7817 Calhoun Rd, Houston, TX 77033

Please RSVP to dwelch@uspastorcouncil.org

We knew the Mayor was planning this ordinance and now we need EACH of you as key leader pastors on board.  I know it is short notice however we have less than 30 days before the plan to bring this to vote so need all hands on deck to brief you on the critical element of the ordinance, confirm message/talking points and launch the strategy to defeat it.

As you know I am very careful not to lean to hard on your schedules – but this is one more rare time I am asking, urging and pleading for you to change your schedules to be there for this meeting.  EVERYONE has conflicts – however this is our freedom at stake and while the business community may offer some opposition – THE CHURCH MUST BE THE SUPPORTING FORCE, ready to take point if business falters.

We can and must defeat this at city council, which will require EVERY one of us taking part.  Please review the following information and RSVP to me ASAP so we can have a meal and seating count.  We have asked that this meeting be held at one of the historic and leading African American churches, Mt. Hebron MBC….the next to be hosted by some of our key Hispanic pastors.  One Lord, One Church, One Body, One Voice!

Pastors sued for “consumer fraud”? More on today’s conference call
Dr. Jim Garlow with legal expert on freedom of conscience issue

A reminder –

Are you aware that you might be sued for “consumer fraud” when you teach that the power of the Gospel can set a person free from something the Bible labels as a sinful practice? It’s already happening and we encourage you to join us for a conference call tomorrow, Thursday, April 24 at 9am Pacific Time, 10am Mountain, 11am Central, and Noon Eastern to learn more.

Highly respected San Diego attorney Charles LiMandri, president of the Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund (consciencedefense.org), is representing Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing (JONAH) that is being sued by militant gay activists who charge that JONAH violated New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act by claiming that their counseling services could cure clients of being gay.

LiMandri points to the significance of the case: If these gay activists win, he believes they will likely start suing Evangelical, Catholic and other faith-based organizations involved in trying to help homosexuals become free from same-sex attraction. He will give us an update on this remarkable “consumer fraud” case, and its relevance to all of us as pastors and Christian leaders.

This is vitally important to all of us and we encourage you to be on the call.

Again, that’s tomorrow, Thursday, April 24 – 9am PT / 10am MT / 11am CT / 12noon ET

Talk to you then.
