Sheriffs Alliance Warns Border Crisis Enables Violent Gangs to Target Law Enforcement

A coalition of five professional associations for county sheriffs across the nation issued a statement saying the failure to secure the nation’s border is “unacceptable” and calling for more action to push back against violent gangs that are now targeting police officers.

The statement followed a recent memo issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security warning law enforcement about the Venezuela-based gang Tren de Aragua (TDA) giving the “green light” to its members to target and open fire on police officers.

Leading members of the American Sheriffs Alliance (ASA) described the increase of “brutal and violent” gangs operating domestically as being directly associated with current border security policies.
