First Christian Colonies in USA

Our primary focus in the coming months is on the influences and events that led to and shaped the birth of the United States as an independent nation in 1776.

In 2007 the 400th anniversary of the first English colony in America was commemorated. Official government observances were less celebratory than a century before, and more concerning was the absence of the Christian history of the founding of Jamestown, Virginia. I and other colleagues provided alternative ways to remember our Christian history at that time, but even among most Christians today there is little understanding of how deeply Christian the founding of Jamestown was. The foundations of the first church was not yet discovered in 2007 but are evident today (the pic above illustrates where the first church stood).

But before looking at Jamestown’s history, we should mention that other historical settlements occurred in what is today USA as well.
