Patrick Adds 'Life of the Mother' Act, Taxpayer-Funded Abortion Travel Ban to Senate Priorities

Among Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s top 40 priorities during Texas’ 89th Legislative Session are two abortion-related bills: the “Life of the Mother” Act clarifying the state’s current abortion laws and interpretation of its exceptions, and “Stopping Taxpayer-Funded Abortion Travel.”

Patrick released the last 15 of his priorities of his agenda that includes a plethora of items, among which are these two abortion-related bills, Senate Bills (SB) 31 and 33, filed or to be filed on today’s filing deadline of the 89th regular session.

Patrick reserved SB 31 for the “Life of the Mother Act,” a highly-anticipated piece of legislation after various political campaigns targeted the state’s abortion restrictions, claiming the laws as dangerous for women, and confining for healthcare providers — a key focus of former presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ 2024 campaign.
